KL1 in Petaling Jaya, on the western edge of Kuala Lumpur's Klang Valley, is NEXTDC's first facility outside Australia and went live on 14 May 2026. The roughly AUD 1 billion project is designed for 65 MW of IT capacity across about 18,250 sqm of technical space, delivered in five phases with 15 MW available in the opening phase. NEXTDC has carried its Australian engineering standard into Malaysia: the site holds Uptime Institute Tier IV design and construction certifications and is positioned as the first Tier IV-certified data center in Peninsular Malaysia. The operator markets KL1 explicitly as an AI factory, built for dense GPU deployments alongside conventional cloud and enterprise colocation, with on-ramps to major cloud platforms including AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and Oracle. For workloads that need fault-tolerant infrastructure in the Kuala Lumpur metro rather than the Johor hyperscale cluster, KL1 is currently the highest-certified option in the market.
