Equinix opened AM4 in 2017 as the flagship of its Amsterdam Science Park campus, a purpose-built tower designed by Benthem Crouwel Architects that stacks eight floors of data center space into a dense urban footprint. The building offers around 11,500 sqm of usable colocation space with capacity for some 4,200 cabinets, sitting directly in the AMS-IX ecosystem alongside the neighboring AM3 — a location that puts tenants at one of Europe's busiest peering hubs. Sustainability engineering is a distinguishing feature: AM4 uses aquifer thermal energy storage so residual heat can warm other Science Park buildings, runs on 100% renewable electricity, and is the subject of a 2025 agreement with the Municipality of Diemen to explore feeding its waste heat into a district heating network. As an Equinix IBX, it targets the classic interconnection-and-colocation profile — networks, clouds, financial services and enterprises building low-latency European hubs — backed by the company's 99.999%+ global uptime record. Site-level power capacity is not published.
