QTS entered Northern Virginia with a mega-campus play rather than a single build: Ashburn 2 (DC-2) is the second facility on the operator's 52-acre site in Data Center Alley, announced in 2017 and master-planned for more than 700,000 sq ft of raised floor and roughly 140 MW of gross power at full development. The campus targets hyperscale and large enterprise requirements, offering wholesale data halls that customers can expand into as demand grows, provisioned and monitored through QTS's software-defined Service Delivery Platform. Ashburn sits in Loudoun County's fiber-rich corridor, giving DC-2 access to the dense carrier and cloud ecosystem that has made the market the largest data center hub in the world. Third-party listings date the building's opening to 2022 on an adjacent 24-acre parcel acquired in 2019. QTS was taken private by Blackstone in 2021, and the Ashburn campus has since become one of its principal East Coast expansion sites for cloud and AI capacity.
