Announced in April 2022, this co-development pairs GDS Holdings with Malaysia's YTL Power to build 168 MW of capacity across eight separate data centre buildings inside the YTL Green Data Center Park at Kulai, Johor — roughly 30 km from both Johor Bahru and Singapore. The park itself is master-planned for 500 MW of data centre capacity matched with an equivalent amount of solar generation, with about 1,500 acres of adjacent land earmarked for solar farms, and was billed as Malaysia's first hyperscale campus powered by on-site renewable energy. For the GDS-YTL tranche, the first phase was slated to enter service in 2024 under the original agreement. The renewable-first power architecture differentiates the site from grid-dependent Johor competitors and appeals to hyperscale and AI tenants carrying net-zero commitments. Building-level specifications, certifications and floor areas for the GDS facilities have not been published, so the project should be assessed at campus level for now.
