Opened in 2012 as Equinix's first IBX data center in the Middle East, DX1 sits in Dubai Production City (the former International Media Production Zone) off Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. Its defining asset is the UAE-IX internet exchange, the region's first carrier-neutral IX, established by the UAE telecom regulator with DE-CIX — making DX1 a natural aggregation point for networks and content platforms serving the Gulf. Directory listings credit the site with about 5.6 MW of power and roughly 40,900 sq ft (about 3,800 sqm) of colocation space, supporting cabinet densities in the 3–6 kW range. The building is designed to Tier III standards, cooled by air-cooled chillers with N+20% redundancy, and secured with biometrics and mantrap entry. An offshore/onshore zoning model separates international transit traffic from UAE-domestic hosting. Together with the newer DX3 on the same campus, DX1 anchors Equinix's Dubai interconnection hub for carriers, CDNs, financial services and enterprises.
