Equinix SY5

Subsea connectivity explains a lot about SY5. Equinix's largest Australian IBX sits at 200 Bourke Road in Alexandria, four kilometres from Sydney's CBD, with direct access to the Southern Cross, PIPE Pacific, Hawaiki and Australia Singapore cable systems that tie Australia to the US and Asia. Opened in November 2019 after a US$160 million first phase, the building connects to the neighbouring SY4 via a secure link bridge, extending an interconnection hub where Equinix Fabric reaches more than 1,800 participants, including every major cloud provider. At full build the site supports about 9,220 cabinets, with initial colocation space above 260,000 sq ft (roughly 24,000 sqm). Cooling combines indirect evaporative systems with direct-to-chip liquid cooling, which Equinix has deployed here to handle GPU-dense AI and high-performance computing racks alongside standard enterprise footprints. That mix makes SY5 a natural landing point for networks, content platforms and multinationals building hybrid architectures in Australia, and for AI deployments that need liquid-cooled capacity inside a dense interconnection ecosystem rather than a remote hyperscale campus.
