Equinix entered South Korea with SL1, an IBX opened on 30 August 2019 in Sangam-dong's Digital Media City at 24 World Cup buk-ro 60-gil, Mapo-gu. The carrier-neutral facility launched with more than 19,200 square feet (about 1,790 square meters) of colocation space and 550 cabinets, with a planned full build of roughly 3,200 square meters and 1,000 cabinets. Its value proposition is interconnection rather than raw scale: customers reach Platform Equinix's global ecosystem through Cross Connects, Equinix Internet Exchange and Equinix Fabric, which at launch was slated to deliver private on-ramps to Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, IBM Cloud, Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud from Seoul. Major Korean network carriers are present on site, making SL1 a neutral meeting point in a market historically served by telco-owned IDCs. The opening tracked Korea's nationwide 5G launch, and the facility suits enterprises, network operators and cloud-adjacent deployments that prize dense interconnection over megawatts.
