GDS Shanghai No.3 (SH3)

Shanghai No.3 completed in the fourth quarter of 2016 as the third building on GDS's flagship campus in the Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone, the Pudong district cluster that anchors the company's home market. GDS reported that SH3 and two sister facilities together added 12,160 sqm of area in service that quarter, and the first three Waigaoqiao data centres reached a combined 22,023 sqm of net floor area with over 93% committed shortly after — an indication of how quickly Shanghai capacity was absorbed. The campus location matters: Waigaoqiao's free-trade-zone status and dense fibre routes into Shanghai's financial and internet hubs have drawn all of China's leading cloud providers alongside more than 100 blue-chip enterprise customers, making it one of the most cloud-dense colocation clusters in the country. GDS designs its facilities to a Tier III+ standard, with roughly twice the size and power density of the average Chinese data centre by its own comparison. SH3 suits cloud availability zones, financial services and enterprises that need to be inside Shanghai's network gravity rather than in remote wholesale campuses.
