Chindata inaugurated the Sangyuan Cloud Computing Campus on 14 January 2020, the second of three hyperscale sites in its 'three points in one city' deployment across Huailai County, Zhangjiakou, joining the Guanting Lake base operational since 2017 and preceding the Cunrui campus. The company stresses that Sangyuan was independently planned, invested, constructed and operated by Chindata — a full-stack approach it uses to compress delivery timelines for hyperscale clients rather than acting as a landlord for third-party builds. Huailai sits in the capital's half-hour economic circle, and the district's cool climate and access to Zhangjiakou's wind and solar generation underpin a renewable energy ratio the operator puts at 70% for the cluster, one reason the county was named a national data centre demonstration base weeks after Sangyuan opened. The campus is engineered for hyper-scale computing requirements and serves demanding cloud computing customers; cluster partners named by Chindata include Tencent, China Telecom, China Unicom and iSoftStone. It fits Chinese cloud and internet platforms placing large, contiguous capacity blocks near Beijing where power is cheaper and greener than inside the city.
