GDS Holdings chose Batam's Nongsa Digital Park for its first Indonesian campus, placing new capacity roughly 25 kilometers across the strait from Singapore at a time when the city-state's own supply remains constrained. NDP1 comprises two data center buildings with a planned net floor area of about 10,000 square meters and an estimated 28 MW of total IT power. GDS broke ground in mid-July 2022 within the Nongsa Special Economic Zone, and Indonesia's sovereign wealth fund INA later announced a collaboration with GDS to develop data centers in the zone. The company has said the campus will apply its next-generation Smart DC platform and make active use of local renewable energy, though no renewable percentage has been published. Sitting on the digital corridor between Singapore and Indonesia, the site targets hyperscalers and international platforms that want Singapore-adjacent capacity without Singapore's power and land limits. Certifications have not yet been published for the campus, which remains under construction.
