KL1 brought the Equinix interconnection platform to the Klang Valley in early 2024, planted in Cyberjaya at the heart of Malaysia's Multimedia Super Corridor. The roughly US$100 million IBX opened its first phase in Q1 2024 with 450 cabinets over 1,300 sqm of colocation space; a second phase completed later the same year doubled the cabinet count, taking the facility toward its full design of 900 cabinets and 2,630 sqm. Equinix reports the site's electricity consumption is fully covered by renewables, consistent with the company's global 100% renewable coverage goal. As with its Johor twin JH1, the value here is ecosystem rather than raw megawatts: customers interconnect through Equinix Fabric, Cross Connects, Internet Exchange, and Metro Connect, reaching the operator's worldwide footprint and, since 2026, the newly announced KL2 rising less than a kilometre away. Early tenants span content, fintech, gaming, and AI companies. KL1 fits enterprises and service providers that need a carrier-dense point of presence for the Kuala Lumpur metro, particularly those pairing local deployments with capacity in Singapore or Johor.
