Equinix's first Malaysian data center, JH1, opened in 2024 at Nusajaya Tech Park in Iskandar Puteri, Johor — a deliberate placement just 15 km from Singapore that lets the facility absorb spillover demand from the capacity-constrained city-state while serving Malaysian domestic growth. Built with an initial investment of about US$40 million (RM188 million), the two-storey IBX provides 500 cabinets across 1,960 sqm of colocation space, modest by hyperscale standards but designed around Equinix's interconnection model rather than bulk power. Tenants get access to Equinix Fabric for software-defined connectivity to the operator's global platform, plus Cross Connects, Equinix Internet Access, Equinix Internet Exchange, and Metro Connect — effectively extending Singapore's dense ecosystem across the Causeway at Johor cost structures. Early adopters cited by Equinix include content providers, fintech firms, gaming companies, and AI outfits. JH1 pairs with KL1 in Cyberjaya as the company's initial Malaysian foothold, and interconnection with the later JH2 and KL2 builds ties it into a broader national platform. It suits network operators, content platforms, and enterprises wanting Singapore-adjacent presence with room to grow.
