Announced in May 2026, KL2 is Equinix's fourth Malaysian data center and its first in the country purpose-built for the AI era. The facility will rise in Cyberjaya less than one kilometre from the existing KL1, representing an investment of more than US$190 million and delivering over 2,200 cabinets at full build-out — more than double KL1's capacity. What distinguishes the design is thermal engineering: a substantial portion of total capacity is provisioned for advanced liquid cooling, targeting the high-density AI inference and HPC workloads that conventional air-cooled IBX halls cannot support. Equinix is targeting 100% renewable energy coverage from day one and has engineered the site in line with the Asia Pacific Data Centre Association's Sustainable Digital Infrastructure Accord. On the network side, KL2 will interconnect through Equinix Fabric and Fabric Intelligence with KL1, the Johor pair JH1 and JH2, and Singapore, giving customers a low-latency mesh across the region's tightest-coupled markets. The build is aimed at enterprises adopting distributed AI and hybrid multicloud architectures; no opening date, megawatt figure, or floor area has been published yet.
