Dubai hosts UAE North, Microsoft's primary Azure cloud region in the Emirates, which reached general availability in June 2019 as one of the first two Microsoft cloud regions in the Middle East. It carries the bulk of the country's Azure and Microsoft 365 workloads and, since 2022, offers three availability zones — physically separate datacenter locations within the region that let customers run zone-redundant architectures for higher resilience. UAE North is paired with UAE Central in Abu Dhabi, which serves as the in-country disaster-recovery counterpart, so organizations can keep both primary and failover data inside the UAE. Microsoft does not disclose the power, floor space or rack counts of the underlying facilities, which is typical for its cloud regions. The region is aimed at enterprises, government bodies and startups that consume cloud services rather than colocation, particularly those with data-residency obligations under UAE regulation.
